MCC Takes Flight with New Electric Aircraft

People standing in front of electric plane. The future of aviation has arrived at Madisonville Community College.

MCC is proud to unveil its new fully electric aircraft: the first of its kind in Kentucky and only the second in the nation. The Pipistrel Velis Electro, the nation’s first certified electric aircraft, will provide MCC Aviation students with valuable hands-on experience with emerging flight technology and prepare them for a rapidly evolving aviation industry.

The addition of electric flight technology to MCC’s training program reflects the college’s continued commitment to innovative, workforce-focused aviation education. The aircraft also provides opportunities to explore more efficient flight training while reducing operational costs.

This achievement was made possible through strong partnerships with organizations that recognize the importance of investing in the future of aviation and workforce development. The Kentucky Department of Aviation and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have played an important role in supporting MCC’s aviation programs and helping bring this innovative technology to campus.

As aviation continues to evolve, MCC is preparing students to be ready for what comes next. The future of aviation is here, and it’s taking flight at Madisonville Community College.
