MCC Reaches Dress Up the Glema Campaign Goal

Madisonville Community College has reached a major fundraising goal in the “Dress Up the Glema” capital campaign. As of last week, the college has reached the initial campaign goal of $500,000 to fund renovations of the Glema Mahr Center or the Arts.

“This community has once again stepped up to ensure that the Glema Mahr Center can continue to be a beacon in the region for the performing arts,” remarked Dr. Cindy Kelley, MCC president. 

Steve Cox, chair of the Madisonville College Foundation, shared this about the campaign’s success, “The Foundation is so appreciative of the community’s support. The Glema Center attracts thousands to Madisonville and serves as an important element of the quality of life available here.”

While the original goal has been met, the college will continue to raise funds to help fund the renovations. The center has not been upgraded in any significant way since its opening in 1990. Major contributions to the campaign were made by both the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission and the City of Madisonville Tourism Committee.

“We are thrilled to have met the initial goal, but there are many more chances for supporters to get involved. Seat sponsorships are still available and we have several naming opportunities for donors,” commented Raegina Scott, MCC advancement director. 

Improvements planned as a part of the project are the complete replacement of all seating in the auditorium, including the addition of center aisle; the purchase of a new orchestra shell; and upgrades to the sound and video system. Additional enhancements include new stage chairs for events, exterior repairs, and updates to the dressing rooms and the green room. 

Dr. Kelley continued, “With these updates, the Glema will continue to be a premier destination for arts and entertainment in Western Kentucky. Without the support of the community, we couldn’t attract the diverse entertainers and artists we’ve become known for across the region.”

Work on the center is scheduled to begin in this spring. While the auditorium will be out of commission for a period of time, no major disruptions to the programming calendar are expected and shows will continue to be held during the year.
