Glema Mahr Center Hosts Local Artist David Gilkey

The Anne P. Baker Gallery at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts presents Infinite and Infinitesimal: An Experience in Acrylic Pour by David Gilkey, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 22nd from 2-3:30 p.m.

David Gilkey was born in Nortonville, Kentucky. He graduated from Hopkins County Central High School and then attended Madisonville Community College, followed by Murray State University, receiving a B.S. in Art Education. Mr. Gilkey became an art teacher in Hopkins County, teaching for twelve years. Mr. Gilkey has personally participated in Juried shows at the Glema, winning the Beauty in People award, and has previously collaborated with local art teacher Melanie Hoffman in a split exhibition titled Visions. He has also participated in the Madisonville gallery walk, and has created graphic designs for schools and organizations in the community. Infinite and Infinitesimal is his first solo exhibit.

Infinite and Infinitesimal showcases a body of work that focuses on “acrylic pouring.” In this process, acrylic paint is thinned out using an acrylic flow additive, then poured onto a surface to create the composition.

The exhibit opens with a reception on June 22nd, featuring a live demonstration piece, and will run from June 22nd thru August 16, 2019. Gallery hours are Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and later on show days. For any other questions, please call the Glema Box office at 270-821-2787.
