    MCC PREPARES STUDENTS FOR CAREERS

    Madisonville Community College (MCC) offers over twenty-five technical programs for students pursuing certificate, diploma, or associate degree credentials for a variety of career options. Locally, the MCC Muhlenberg Campus offers many of the required general education courses along with training courses such as nursing assistant and emergency medical technician.

    The NAA 100 Nursing Assistant Skills I class is offered three times during the fall semester. Tammy Johnson, nursing assistant instructor, will be teaching a first bi-term course on Tuesday/Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. beginning August 20 until October 10. The second bi-term course will also be taught on Tuesday/Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. beginning October 22 through December 12. For students preferring an evening course, NAA 100 will be offered on Monday/Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. beginning August 21 and ending December 11. NAA 100 is a three credit hour course, and upon successful completion of the course and the state examination, enables students to work as nursing assistants in a variety of healthcare settings. Successful completion of NAA100 is a requirement for admission consideration for MCC s nursing program.     Another career training course option is FRS 2061 - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This six-credit hour class meets from 5-9 p.m. on Monday/Wednesday beginning August 19 through December 11. Terry Dossett, a McLean County paramedic, will be the instructor. The course prepares students for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician exam. Students who certify as an Emergency Medical Technician can work on ambulance units, emergency departments, and fire departments as well as factories, mining, and many other industrial settings. EMTs can advance their training by earning the Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic certificate or associate degree option offered by MCC.

    MCC President Dr. Judith L. Rhoads shares, I am proud of the educational opportunities MCC offers Muhlenberg area students. With more than 575 course sections offered during the fall semester, I encourage everyone to take a look at the schedule and find courses that fit your needs. MCC has expanded its online course offerings and now offers online associate degree program options in energy management, human services, and paralegal technology.

    Financial aid is available to those who qualify and students should apply early. Priority deadline for fall 2013 financial aid awards is July 1; students applying or completing the process after this date may encounter significant delays in processing.     The FAFSA is available online at fafsa.ed.gov. MCC Financial Aid staff are available daily to assist students with FAFSA completion and other questions or concerns, and visit the Muhlenberg Campus every Thursday (9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.). Students should remember that the FAFSA is a free application, Phelps added. Applicants should be wary of any financial aid forms or processes that require payment.
