MCC PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN READ-IN

In honor of Black History Month, Madisonville Community College s Humanities Division will be hosting African American Read-Ins on Thursday, February 25, from 12:20 - 12:45 p.m. in the Loman C. Trover Library on the college s North Campus (2000 College Drive, Madisonville) and on Wednesday, February 24, from 12:20 - 12:45 p.m. in room 109 of the Shaver Building on MCC s Muhlenberg Campus (406 W. Everly Brothers Blvd., Central City). The Humanities Division welcomes all community members to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

Participants can come and read a favorite passage from a book, a poem, a part of a speech, or anything written by an African American author, or participants can just come listen to others read passages from favorite African American authors.

All across the nation, African American Read-Ins are being held to celebrate Black History Month and to encourage literacy. The Read-In has been endorsed by the International Reading Association. Over a million readers of all ethnic groups from the United States, the District of Columbia, the West Indies, African countries, and more have participated. The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.
