
MCC Archery Team Brings Home the Gold
Madisonville Community College (MCC) Archery Team members Kody Appleby, Hunter Carlton, and Jonathan Stevens earned the 2016 United States Intercollegiate 3D Archery National Championship title in the Compound Mens Team event. The championship match was held on October 15-16 at the Sahara Woods State Fish and Wildlife Area in Illinois. In the Qualification Round, Carlton ranked 3rd individually, Appleby 18th, and Stevens 25th out of a field of 29 contestants. The MCC Archery Team shot against the University of Wisconsin SP in the Elimination Round, defeating them with a score of 177 to 169. In the Semi-finals, MCC competed against Union College and claimed a hard earned victory with a score of 184 to 182. The Finals match paired MCC with the University of the Cumberlands team. MCC earned the gold medal and the national championship with a score of 184 over the opposing team s 176.Fellow archery team member Easton Cansler placed 52nd individually in the Bow Hunter Men Qualification Round. Hunter Carlton won a bronze medal in the Compound Mens individual competition and was awarded the All-American medal at the event.
The national championship tournament included men, women, and mixed teams competing in Bow Hunter, Compound, Recurve and Basic Bow events as well as individual competitions. More than 130 archers participated in the 2-day event.
In spring 2017, the MCC Archery Club will be hosting 2 United States Collegiate Archery (USCA) tournaments at the West Kentucky Archery Complex located at 1300 Grapevine Road in Madisonville.
