GED Graduates Honored at Ceremony

Madisonville Community College hosted GED graduation ceremonies for Hopkins County's ACE2 program in the Richard Brynes Auditorium on Friday, July 30 with 35 GED graduates participating.

ACE2 Director Cris Crowley served as the evening's host, and Dr. Susan Edington, doctoral graduate from the University of Kentucky and Director of the Murray State University Madisonville Campus was the commencement speaker.

Dr. Edington spoke on the importance of values and positive thinking, with a concentrated focus on career goals and personal fulfillment. Over 150 family members and friends enjoyed Dr. Edington's words and the evening's activities.

Highlights of the evening included scholarship awards to four ACE2 graduates who plan to attend MCC in the fall, and recognition of students who are selected as outstanding in specific academics areas.

Following are students who received academic awards:

  • Science award recipient: Zach Short
  • Social Studies award recipient: Kelly Dukes
  • Reading award recipient: Justin Barber
  • Math award recipient: Anthony Mullins
  • Writing award recipient: Marvin Evans
  • Overall outstanding academic achievement: Shannon Dzikowski

The following students received scholarships for tuition support at Madisonville Community College for the Fall 2010 semester:

  • Amanda Hammons
  • Daniel Frankel
  • Christopher Cobb

ACE2 serves over 1100 students in Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties each year; approximately 150 students complete their GED requirements while supported by ACE2 instructional tutors, and many earn college credits at MCC.
