FLAG POLE DEDICATED AT MCC MUHLENBERG CAMPUS

On Monday, April 28, the Madisonville Community College (MCC) Muhlenberg Campus C.R.O.S.S. (Christ Reaching Out Saving Students) student organization dedicated the campus s new flag pole and honored Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Jerry and Charlene Charlie Grundy during an observance of the National Day of Prayer. The Grundys sponsored the flag pole project, and C.R.O.S.S. student coordinator Kristen Robertson worked diligently for two years on this project.

The flag, which had flown over the U. S. Capitol Building, was donated by Congressman Ed Whitfield on the occasion of the Muhlenberg Campus s 10th anniversary.

When approached about the flag pole project, Master Sergeant Grundy was eager to see the flag he risked his life to defend flying over the MCC Muhlenberg Campus. Grundy joined the Air Force in 1964 and retired in 1984. Over his military career, he logged 7,000 hours and 200 missions during the Vietnam War. He received the Air Medal 18 times, the Distinguished Flying Cross 11 times, and the Air Force Commendation Medal once. The Grundys are active members of Carter Creek Baptist Church and reside in Greenville.
