Work While You Learn

Information for Employers

Are you an employer who is willing to place candidates from the Work and Learn program? In order to participate, you must:

  • Provide legitimate work experience. Though they do provide valuable experience, restaurants, convenience / department stores, etc. are not considered as potential employers. Job duties such as custodial work , food preparation, gardening, etc. are also unacceptable.
  • Complete necessary application forms. Students and employers must complete initial work-study forms, including a job description and an off-campus agreement (if applicable).
  • Complete bi-monthly payroll forms. Students are require to track their hours and report those to the Work and Learn office. Employers must be willing to monitor these hours and sign students' payroll forms. Unsigned forms will not be accepted and hours will be periodically verified by the Work and Learn office.
  • Be willing to work around student schedule. The Work and Learn work-study component is a supplement to student income and is considered secondary to academic study. Therefore, employers are expected to schedule work hours around the student worker's classroom time.
