Students Receive High Honors for Achievement

MADISONVILLE, Ky. Madisonville Community College students, Haley Gatlin and Beverly Stallins, have been named to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) All-Kentucky Academic Team in recognition of their scholastic achievements.

Gatlin, of Madisonville, is an associate degree nursing student. Her career goal is to work as a nurse practitioner at a neonatal care unit or as a nurse anesthetist.

She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and has been active in a variety of activities on campus including Student Government Association and the Walking to the Beat American Heart Walk, hosted by faculty, staff, and students on the MCC Health Campus. She has also worked with middle school students in the Think College Early program through the MCC Student Ambassadors. She was also one of four MCC students nominated to the All-USA Today Academic Team.

Gatlin also volunteers in the community through Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Salvation Army. She works at the Hopkins County YMCA, provides child care, and works at the University of Louisville School of Medicine Trover Campus.

Stallins, of Dawson Springs, graduated in May 2009 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in medical information technology. She is currently taking additional general education courses at MCC in order to pursue a Bachelor of Integrated Studies at the Murray State University Madisonville Regional Campus.

She has been named to the Dean s List each semester she has been enrolled at MCC and was also nominated to the All-USA Today Academic Team.

Stallins has worked as a student worker in the MCC Ready to Work program, which promotes the success of Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) recipients and Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF) eligible students. She has also worked in the Workforce Solutions department, assisting with marketing and promotion of the college s community education classes.

Gatlin and Stallins were recently recognized for selection to the KCTCS All-Kentucky Academic Team at a luncheon in Lexington in May.
