McElvain Awarded the N. O. Kimbler Memorial Scholarship

Madisonville Community College student Katelyn McElvain has been awarded the N. O. Kimbler Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,650 for the spring 2017 semester by the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTS). The scholarship was established by a group of retired educators in western Kentucky in recognition of Mr. Kimbler s desire for every deserving Kentucky youth to receive a college education. It is awarded by the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association to community college students who show promise of becoming excellent teachers. Mr. Kimbler started his teaching career in 1912 in a two-room country school. He rose to become State President of the Kentucky Education Association in 1938 and served as the Executive Secretary of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System from 1940 until his retirement in 1957.

McElvain, of Central City, is a student in MCC s Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) program and anticipates graduating in May 2017 with an Associate in Applied Science degree. The IECE program focuses on the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children from birth through age five. McElvain is looking forward to entering the workforce and working in a preschool classroom.
