MCC to Offer Machine Tool Classes at Night

MADISONVILLE, Ky. Beginning in January, Madisonville Community College will offer an introductory machine tool class at night in an effort to accommodate full-time workers who would like to come back to school.

This is the first time we have offered any machine tool classes at night, said Ronnie Birdsong, machine tool technology program coordinator. We hope that this will appeal to people who would like a career change but have to work full time.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Badgett Center on the North Campus. The course offers hands on experience with lathes, mills, band saws, drill presses, and measurement instruments. Students will also learn introductory level blueprint reading.

For lectures, Birdsong will utilize Tooling U, an online training tool for technical trades.

By using this online format, students will have easy access to lecture materials and more time in the lab, said Birdsong.

The first five students to enroll in the class will receive scholarship funds to cover the tuition cost for the course. Spring 2010 classes begin January 11. To enroll, contact Lori Johnson at (270) 824-1827.
