MCC Student Sarah DeWitt Named to 2016 KPTA/RehabCare All Academic Team

Madisonville Community College (MCC) student Sarah DeWitt has been named to the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA)/RehabCare 2016 All Academic Team. The selection recognizes DeWitt as an outstanding physical therapy student member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)/KPTA who is likely to make a significant impact upon the profession.

A native of Louisville, DeWitt is a 2nd semester student in MCC s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and anticipates graduating in May 2017. While completing her Bachelor of Science degree at Western Kentucky University, she worked as a physical therapy tech at a local clinic. The hands-on knowledge she gained confirmed her career choice of becoming a physical therapy professional. I understand exactly what it takes to continue to be the best therapist in order to help others through any rehab. During my first semester of the PTA program, I have been able to take my experience as a tech and apply it to the details in the textbooks and through my professors lectures, shared Dewitt.

MCC PTA Program Coordinator Stephanie Taylor noted, Sarah currently serves as an APTA/KPTA liaison for the program and works diligently to ensure other classmates become involved within their state and local organizations. In addition to requirements of the program, she has attended several district meetings in western Kentucky, visited the Capitol for National Advocacy Day, and attended the APTA NEXT Conference in Nashville, TN.

DeWitt knows first-hand of a few of the challenges facing the physical therapy profession insurance regulations, patient communication, new computer systems, staffing, etc. She keeps up-to-date on these topics not only for herself but for her classmates. She is always eager to learn about new ways she and her fellow students can be involved and network with people in the therapy profession.

DeWitt and the other members of the KPTA/RehabCare 2016 All Academic Team will be recognized at the 2016 KPTA Fall Conference held on September 9-10 in Lexington.
