MCC Establishes New Endowed Professorship

Madisonville Community College hosted a media announcement and reception on Tuesday, June 14 - appropriately located in MCC s Loman C. Trover Library - at which the college announced the establishment of its second-ever permanently endowed professorship, specifically the Dr. Loman C. Trover Endowed Professorship of Nursing and Allied Health. The Trover Professorship will have an ultimate value of $250,000; 50% of the professorship was created through a gift from the Hopkins County Development Corporation in late 2010. That gift will be matched by the Kentucky amp; Community College System s endowment match program during the next 4-6 months; estimated income to support professorship priorities is $12,500 - $13,500 annually over the next seven to ten years.

Dr. Judith Rhoads, MCC President, made the partnership announcement on Tuesday surrounded by members of the Development Corporation, area physicians, family friends, and college leadership. Rhoads outlined the specific activities which will be funded by the Professorship; those activities include funds to support visiting professors and clinicians, regional conferences that support specific issues in health care curriculum, projects that support classroom development of current faculty, and financial support for outstanding students. Interest from the Trover Professorship will sometimes be used in cooperation with activities funded by the William A Logan Professorship; that endowed fund was announced on March 1 in the Trover Tower.

Besides Rhoads, others making remarks included Morris Coffman, Chairman of the Development Corporation and Bobby H. Dampier, Corporation board member, prior CEO of what is now Trover Health System, and also current member of the Madisonville College Foundation.

Dr. Loman Trover was a western Kentucky medical icon who served as a long-time member of both the Madisonville College Foundation and the college s Board of Directors. He provided sound academic, financial, and political advice to Presidents Rhoads and Arthur Stumpf for 25 years. His leadership and consistent financial support resulted in the renaming of the college s library in his honor on November 11, 1998.
Dr. Trover passed away on March 20, 2008. He was a graduate of Transylvania University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
