MCC ANNOUNCES NEW EXPANDED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Scholarship Office at Madisonville Community College (MCC) is pleased to announce the expansion of a scholarship program created to assist single parents in the region who are pursuing an associate s degree. The Lavender Fund II scholarship is designed to provide financial and advising support to students who are making progress toward their academic goals.

As MCC Chief Student Affairs Officer Dr. Jay Parrent notes, Over the past several years some of our best success stories have come from students who are juggling the demands of busy lives with families. We want to make sure that adequate scholarship resources are available along with the mentoring and coaching support that will lead to graduation.

The scholarship was designed to help students overcome barriers in their lives while working to improve their future employability and to increase their families quality of life. Recipients of the scholarship must meet certain criteria and participate in on-campus workshops during the academic year to build student success skills. Regular meetings with the Lavender Support Advisor are also required so that the student can build a strong connection on campus and to the support services available at the college.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students now must be over the age of 25, a single parent, enrolled in an academic degree program at MCC, enrolled in at least 9 credit hours, and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Under certain circumstances, new applicants to the college may be eligible as well.
