LOCAL STUDENTS PLACE IN STANLEY LEWIS CULTURAL DIVERSITY WRITING CONTEST

Madisonville Community College is pleased to announce the winners of the Stanley Lewis Cultural Diversity Writing Contest. Allee Rogers, an 11th grade student at Hopkins County Central High School, took first place and the $500 award with her entry entitled We Can Do It Too. Second place and the $150 award went to Jasmine Martin for her entry entitled An Online World. Martin is an 11th grade student at Madisonville North Hopkins High School. Emily Grimes, an 11th grade student at Hopkins County Central High School, won third place and a $50 award for her entry entitled A True Enlightenment. Marlee Burden, an 8th grade student at Dawson Springs Middle School, was selected as the winner in the elementary/middle school category and received a $50 award for her entry entitled Chess Pieces.

The annual writing contest is held in honor and memory of Stanley Lewis who served students at Madisonville Community College for over 28 years and was the college s first African American faculty member. He was dedicated to meeting the needs of every student and provided genuine kindness, concern, and the best possible service to all. Mr. Lewis was an active member, Deacon and Trustee at Eastview Baptist Church in Madisonville.
