KENTUCKY BOARD OF EDUCATION RECOGNIZES PARRENT FOR SERVICE

Dr. Jay Parrent, Chief Student Affairs Officer at Madisonville Community College, was recently recognized by the Kentucky Board of Education for his service. Parrent, of Princeton, served on the Board from 2010-2015 representing the 1st Kentucky Supreme Court District.

During Parrent s tenure and leadership on the Board, the state adopted the rigorous Kentucky Core Academic Standards, implemented key elements of Senate Bill 1 (2009) to establish a new accountability system for Kentucky s schools, and saw a remarkable increase in the college and career readiness of high school graduates.

Vice-chair William Twyman, of Cave City, remarked of Parrent s work: Jay served on this board at the distinguished level. He filled a strong leadership role on the Curriculum Committee and most recently as the board s vice-chair. Jay played a key role in the commissioner s search where Dr. Pruitt was hired. We take time today to honor and thank him for his service to the students of Kentucky.
