Glema Center to Present "Grease" Summer Musical

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (July 6, 2009) The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts will present its summer musical, Grease, on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m.

Grease, by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, is the Tony Award-winning musical based on the sub-cultures found in many high schools of the 1950s. The show takes place at the hyperactive Rydell High School, where Danny Zuko fronts his gang, The T-Birds, who romance their sassy female equivalents, The Pink Ladies.

When good-girl Sandy Dumbronski arrives in town, the Pink Ladies take her under their collective wing. Other memorable roles include a visit from the Teen Angel, radio disc jockey Vince Fontaine, English teacher Ms. Lynch, as well as cameos from great musical groups from the 50s.

Featured in the score are smash hit songs such as Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You, We Go Together, You re the One That I Want, Grease Lightning, and the title song Grease is the Word.

This production of Grease is part of the Glema Center s Community Theatre Series and is sponsored by US Bank. The community theatre musical is directed by Larry Vaught and is accompanied by a stage band led by the Glema Center s Community Programs and Marketing Coordinator, Lynn Curtis.
