    FIRST AMERICAN EXONERATED FROM DEATH ROW SCHEDULED TO SPEAK AT MCC

    Madisonville Community College s Cultural Diversity Committee will be hosting a special presentation on October 28 featuring Kirk Bloodsworth, the first American exonerated from death row by DNA testing, sharing his story of wrongful conviction. The event will begin at 12:15 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the John H. Gray building (1st floor) located on the college s North Campus (2000 College Drive, Madisonville).

    Bloodsworth, an honorably discharged marine, was arrested in 1984 for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl. He was sentenced to death in Maryland in 1985. Bloodsworth read about a new forensic breakthrough called DNA fingerprinting and lobbied successfully to test evidence collected at the crime scene. The tests established Bloodsworth s innocence and he was released from prison in July 1993.
    In addition to sharing his story, he will be promoting his newly released documentary, Kirk Bloodsworth, An Innocent Man.

    The event is presented in conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, Witness to Innocence, and Death Row Exoneree Kirk Bloodsworth.
