Crittenden Endowment Serves Local Students Attending MCC

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (July 2, 2009) Madisonville Community College (MCC) students of all ages from across Crittenden County continue to receive scholarship support through the Crittenden County Endowment for Excellence.

Established in 2004 as part of MCC s Fulfilling the Promise gifts campaign, the endowment offers seven to ten $1,100 awards, depending on yearly market earnings, to Crittenden residents attending MCC.

For academic year 2008-2009, ten students received endowment awards. For the upcoming year, eight awards available, including three awards to 2009 high school graduates and five others. At least three of the annual $1,100 awards are reserved for students over the age of 22. Jessie Colter, Cassidy Pinson, Jada Williams, and Bailey Travis are all recent graduates receiving support. The awards are given for two years if students maintain at least the minimum academic performance required for the scholarship.

When combined with KEES money, the endowment offers about $4,600 over two years for students attending MCC. This represents approximately 57% of the total cost necessary to earn 50 credit hours over a two-year period, including book purchases.
