Abedi, Tadsse Receive MLK Scholarships

Daniel Abedi, of Greenville, and Elizabeth Tadsse, of Madisonville, have been chosen as the 2011 recipients of the Madisonville Community College Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship.

The scholarship is an annual award that is designated to an MCC student who demonstrates both academic excellence and a commitment to community, much as Dr. King did.

Abedi is a native of Ghana and began his higher education journey through the Job Corps center in Greenville.

He plans to complete an associate of science degree at MCC and transfer to East Carolina University to obtain a bachelor s degree in chemistry. His long-term career goal is to work as a pharmacologist.

Tadsse, a native of Ethiopia, is currently enrolled in the nursing program at MCC.

She began her postsecondary education taking nurse aid and pharmacy technician classes at the Job Corp center in Greenville. Tadsse has volunteered as a peer counselor and secretary of the Student Government Association at Job Corps and is currently involved with the Multicultural Student Association at MCC.

Tadsse plans to graduate from MCC with an associate degree and transfer to a university to obtain a bachelor s degree in nursing.
