What Is Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education?
In the IECE program, you will gain an understanding of the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children from birth through age eight. Topics of discussion include growth and development, health, safety, curriculum planning, assessment, and family involvement.

Students who work 20 hours or more in a licensed early childhood setting/child care are eligible to apply for the Early Childhood Development Scholarship (ECDS) following the directions below.

Scholarship applications for the fall are accepted between April 16, 2024, and July 15, 2024.
- Go to www.kheaa.com
- Click on Sign In
- Enter your User ID and Password
OR
If you do not have an account, click on Need to Register
- Enter e-mail
- Will receive a security code to verify e-mail
- Create profile
- Register - After logged in, click on MyKHEAA
- Apply online for scholarship
- Early Childhood Development Scholarship
- Answer all six scholarship questions and click on Continue
- Type in the EXACT name of the college or university that the scholar is planning to attend. Scholars can also search for a school by just typing the name of the city or town where the home campus is located in the “City box” (note: this is usually the easiest way to locate the school)
- After you have located your school on the Search for your school page click the Select Button and click on Continue
- Complete all required student information boxes and click on Continue
- Complete all required program of study, credit hour (Note: 1 college class normally = 3 credit hours), academic term & age group information and click on Continue
The next page is the “Congratulations! You have successfully applied for: Early Childhood Development Scholarship”. At this point the scholar MUST click on the employer certification form and print the form for their employer to complete and sign. ***Please keep in mind that if you exit the application without printing the form you will have to go back through each screen and fill in missing information again to get to the last page to print it***
After having your employer complete and sign the paper “Employer Certification Form”
you should return the form to:

All scholarship applicants must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for the Early Childhood Development Scholarship. The application for Federal Student Aid should be filled out as soon as possible. If you do not qualify for financial aid, you will still be eligible for the Early Childhood Development Scholarship if you meet all the other requirements of the ECDS. Please remember that no scholarship money is awarded without the FAFSA on file. It is a requirement.
Go to studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to fill out the FAFSA. If you need help, contact your school’s financial aid office.
The 2024-2025 FAFSA will be good for Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025.

Length of Program
You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status.
This information should not be considered a substitute for the KCTCS Catalog. You should always choose classes in cooperation with your faculty advisor to ensure that you meet all degree requirements.
