An important mission of the federally funded TRIO Talent Search program is to provide opportunities for middle and high school participants to visit college campuses to experience first-hand what the colleges offer. Crittenden County High School TRIO Talent Search participants hit the road on December 4th for a campus visit to the University of Tennessee Martin (UT-Martin), an out-of-state college just two hours from Marion and twenty minutes from the Kentucky border. One item of interest at UT-Martin is the school s large agriculture program with many opportunities for hands-on experiences. The university also has suite-style residence halls that allow residents to have their own bedrooms and a shared living room/kitchen area. UT- Martin has an approximate enrollment of 7,700 students.
Also on December 4th, Muhlenberg County High School Talent Search participants traveled to Louisville for for a University of Louisville (U of L) campus visit. Upon arrival, students were given meal vouchers for lunch in the Student Activities Center. Following lunch, an admissions counselor led a thorough discussion about U of L and college in general. Participants were given a campus tour that included the library, fitness facilities, and The Thinker sculpture.
Each campus visit is a learning experience for the TRIO Talent Search participants. Topics discussed included specific admission requirements, major areas of study, out-of-state scholarships and financial aid offerings along with highlights of the college's newest programs and facilities. The participants are fortunate to have this opportunity to compare college campuses in preparation of selecting the best college fit for their future academic experiences. TRIO Talent Search is a federally funded program for qualified eligible middle and high school students.
