MCC Receives Donation from TVA to Support the Girls in Engineering Program

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) recently made a donation to the successful Girls in Engineering program at Madisonville Community College. Josh Clendenen, of TVA, was on campus to make the presentation. This marks the 15th year the college and TVA have partnered to offer the program to female middle school students in Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties.

Girls in Engineering is designed to introduce female students to the ever-expanding and high-wage job market for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers. Participants engage in active learning projects and are encouraged to consider future leadership roles in these fields.

Brianna Crowley, continuing education coordinator at MCC shared these remarks, ”While some programs suggest introducing this content at a later age, we believe that introducing girls to these opportunities at this age is more beneficial. When you begin middle school, that is when you first start selecting class electives and making decisions that will guide you towards your future career.”
