MCC TRIO Talent Search Student Receives Scholarship to Yale

Madisonville Community College (MCC) TRIO Talent Search student, Abby Dixon, has been accepted to attend Yale University.  Abby was selected as a QuestBridge Scholar and matched with Yale University, receiving a four-year scholarship to attend the University.

QuestBridge National College Match is a program that matches high seniors with selective admission colleges granting them admission and four-year scholarships.

In a scholarship essay Abby wrote, “TRIO has provided me with opportunities that no other program or school function could provide. TRIO has given me a love for traveling through the amazing college campus tours and cultural enrichment trips. My favorite trip was in the summer of 2019 to New York City. I had never been up north, which was a brand new experience, and one that influenced my ultimate choice in college. I fell in love with the area and will be attending a college less than 2 hours away. I am ecstatic to start the next chapter of my life and thankful for TRIO’s support.”

Abby has been a participant in TRIO Talent Search since she was in sixth grade. She has participated in various monthly workshops providing career exploration and preparing her for college.

TRIO Talent Search is a federally funded program that works with sixth through twelfth grade students who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to participants. Talent Search staff also encourages high school graduation and assists students with postsecondary application and financial aid processes.
