MCC TRiO Talent Search Program Funded Through 2021
Madisonville Community College s (MCC) TRiO Talent Search program has received federal grant funding of $1,914,400 for the 5 year grant funding cycle of September 1, 2016 - August 31, 2021. MCC was one of only 11 awards in Kentucky and 459 nationwide. MCC s program proposal was selected for funding through a competitive review process of 880 applications on the national level.It s exciting to be able to collaborate with the area middle and high schools by offering additional services to enhance and enrich the participants educational and career success with the program goal of college graduation, shared MCC TRiO Talent Search Program Director Anna Leasure. MCC s program serves students from Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Webster county middle and high schools.
Talent Search has been funded at Madisonville Community College since 1985. The program has consistently met all program objectives which include assisting 756 middle and high school participants. To be eligible for participation in the TRiO Talent Search program, a student must meet low-income and/or potential first generation requirements and demonstrate potential to attend and graduate from college.
Working under the theme of Take the lead Be Prepared Graduate from college!, the 2016-2021 TRiO Talent Search grant will focus on assisting and preparing eligible students for college graduation with an emphasis on rigorous curriculum success in laying the foundation for baccalaureate degree completion. Students will have the opportunity to participate in in-school workshops/tutoring, individual and small group sessions, college campus tours, cultural exposure activities, and summer academic enrichment events.
