An Update from MCC President Dr. Cindy Kelley

Dear Campus Community,

As we look forward to the fall 2020 semester, it is imperative that the college operate in a manner that puts the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and communities at the forefront.

We are excited to provide instruction this fall in a number of formats – in-person, online, and hybrid. We have prepared our college for social distancing and we expanded our cleaning to ensure facilities are sanitized and prepared for your return.

Working closely with multiple state offices and KCTCS, we have created the #HealthyatMCC plan to guide our reopening. You can access the plan and other resources at this link: This plan provides additional details on the steps we have taken to prepare MCC for the future.

As we gear up for a new academic year, I want you to know that we have worked hard to create a safe and encouraging learning environment at MCC. We are open and ready to help you reach your educational goals.  I look forward to seeing you on campus or online this fall!

Campus Update: Thursday, June 11, 2020

Beginning Monday, June 15, we will have a limited opening of our North Campus. We continue to encourage you to communicate with college faculty and staff via email and telephone, but we will begin to open a few offices for appointments only.  

You may contact the staff member listed beside each office to schedule your appointment.

The requirements for coming to campus are as follows: 

  • Students must complete a health check at home. Students with a fever over 100.4 or Covid-19 symptoms should stay home and make other arrangements for assistance.
  • Students are required to check-in with college representatives at a table located near the John H. Gray building on the North Campus
  • Face masks are mandatory at all times while at MCC facilities. We encourage you to bring one from home but the college can provide it for you if you need one.

All MCC student support services, tutoring through the Learning Space, library assistance, and any other campus office continue to be available remotely to help students throughout the summer.

Significant preparations are underway to ensure that our campuses are safe and ready for your return this fall. This work has included extensive cleaning, classroom preparation for social distancing, distribution of sanitizer and disinfectant cleaners across the college, and the purchase of PPE for the campus community.

Campus Update: Wednesday, March 25, 2020

MCC will offer only online/remote classroom instruction through the last day of classes on May 2 and use online/remote assessment during the regular final exam week of May 4 – 10. All in-person instruction will remain online.

Our Spring Commencement ceremonies have been postponed with a decision on new dates to come later this spring.

MCC will provide lab/technical/clinical instruction as soon as Governor Beshear authorizes a return to in-person learning. Clinical instruction could resume as soon as the site allows students into the healthcare facility. Details on this process will be made available at a later date.

Summer classes will begin after May 13 or later as labs become available. This date may be affected by the pandemic response through the Governor’s Office. 

MCC faculty and staff will continue to work remotely through April 17 or until the colleges reopen on a regular schedule. MCC will continue to provide virtual student services across all campus locations. Please continue to reach out to us when you have questions or need help.

Please check your KCTCS student email regularly for campus updates and information from your instructors. Information will also be coming out soon regarding final exams and access to labs and clinical sites. 

Campus Update: Wednesday, March 18, 2020

After much deliberation, college administration has decided that effective Thursday, March 19, MCC will transition to all virtual services through March 29, 2020. This means that campus buildings including the bookstore, labs, and testing centers will no longer be accessible to students or the public. Classes are still accessible online through Blackboard. We feel this is the best course of action to help keep everyone healthy and safe.


We hope that our online class instruction will be temporary through March 29, but COVID-19 quarantine advisement will dictate our decisions. Please sign onto Blackboard, review your classes and communicate questions with your instructor as soon as possible so that you may be assisted.

The Learning Space will be available remotely to assist students with tutoring on course content or with Blackboard access. Please email to schedule a virtual appointment. To schedule a virtual tutoring session please complete the online tutoring request form.


All faculty and staff members are working remotely, so any staff you interact with regularly will still be available to help you. We are still here to serve students even while we are away from campus.

Update from the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts: Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The arts bring people together, and as artists we live by the mantra, “The show must go on.”  However, we are now in an unprecedented time in which being together poses enormous risk. In response to Federal and State recommendations, all events at the Glema Center through May 16 will be rescheduled or canceled, effective immediately.

The Glema Center is currently in the process of rescheduling or canceling 40 separate performances and events. The impact for the Glema, Madisonville Community College, and the community is massive. It includes loss of income, lost wages for hourly employees and artists and lost opportunities for hundreds of children to learn through the arts.

We are hopeful that several events will be rescheduled for a time later in the year when the COVID-19 threat has passed. As the entire industry is currently affected, this planning will take some time and coordination. We ask for your patience and support as staff works to compile an update for each event. As of now, we plan to have the Summer Arts Academy and Mamma Mia, but a final decision will be made by the beginning of May.

If you have tickets for an upcoming event, you will receive information about your choices. To help us provide the best customer service possible, please wait until we have communicated the rescheduled dates and times for events before corresponding with the box office staff regarding your tickets.

In general, you will have several options:
1. If the event is rescheduled, you may transfer your tickets to the new date.
2. Return your tickets for a credit (good until 6-30-2021).
3. Receive a tax credit for your tickets as a donation to the Glema Center.
4. Request a refund.

While we cannot fully anticipate what the next few weeks will bring, we know that the effects will be widespread. We also know we will emerge on the other side of COVID-19 as a strong force, ready to work together for the good of our community.

As you receive information about upcoming shows, please consider how you can help the Glema — and the hundreds of artists, school children and local companies served by this facility — by transferring your ticket purchase to a rescheduled or new event or by receiving a tax credit through donation.

We are all in this together and we are eternally grateful for your support.

All student life activities on the North, Health, and Muhlenberg campuses, such as Student Life Committee events and club and organization meetings are suspended at this time.

Our students’ health and safety during this uncertain time is of primary concern to our administration, faculty, and staff.  On March 30 our college administration will reassess how to continue to provide protection to our student health and safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Campus Update: Friday, March 13, 2020

Madisonville Community College will move in-person and hybrid classes to online delivery beginning Wednesday, March 18 and ending on Friday, March 27.

Classes will be canceled on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17. On these days, faculty will focus on setting up their online classroom environment. Students can expect emailed instructions on accessing their online instruction. Depending on the program and at the discretion of faculty, some off-campus clinical instruction may occur.

During this 2-week period, one computer lab will remain open on the North Campus in the John H. Gray Building, Rm. 215 and one will remain open on the Muhlenberg Campus in the Shaver Education Center, Rm. 202. IT staff will monitor these labs and disinfect equipment regularly. Half of the chairs will be removed from the computer labs to encourage social distancing.

• Workforce Solutions training taking place away from campus will continue. Contact Workforce Solutions at (270) 824-8659 or (270) 824-8658 if you have questions regarding your training session.
• The Assessment Center will remain open but will limit number of people allowed to schedule at any given time. This will allow for social distance between those testing. Contact our Assessment Center at (270) 824-1701 if you have questions regarding your testing time.
• Campuses and offices will remain open to assist students as needed.


In the meantime, please continue to practice good hygiene habits and observe the following recommendations:

·         Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds frequently.

·         Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you cannot wash your hands.

·         ​Do your best to avoid touching your face.

·         Practice social distancing (keep a distance of 6 feet if someone is sick).

·         If you have fever and/or have respiratory symptoms, let someone know, and stay home.

·         Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow.


MCC Campus Update - A Message from the President

Good afternoon, MCC Student Body.

I hope that you have had a restful and relaxing spring break. Things were very busy at the college as we prepared for the last half of the term and took precautions to ensure we are prepared to handle any expansion of the coronavirus (COVID-19) into our service area.

Our first priority always is the safety and well-being of our campus community. The college’s leadership team is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, including close observation of updates through the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). While it is difficult to plan for every situation, the college is working hard to develop plans in case we need to make changes to our programming or class schedule.

KCTCS has created a website, found at this link, that provides additional details on statewide resources and information about the virus. To help maintain the health and safety of our campus community, we suggest the following steps that we can all take to do our part:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds frequently.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you cannot wash your hands.
  • ​Do your best to avoid touching your face.
  • Practice social distancing (keep a distance of 6 feet if someone is sick).
  • If you have fever and/or have respiratory symptoms, let someone know, and stay home.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow.
  • Regularly clean and disinfect counters, desks, keyboards, and other surfaces that are high traffic.

The well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our first priority.  The situation concerning COVID-19 is very fluid.  The situation at MCC may change quickly. The Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) is a new form of the coronavirus family that originated in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December and has spread throughout the world.  As of right now, the risk of exposure to this new strain of the coronavirus is considered low in Kentucky.  However, confirmed cases in the US are increasing.  We are monitoring the situation and will continue to update this page and take appropriate measures to ensure the health and well-being of all students, faculty, and staff.  The following is a list of key resources to keep you informed about the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

State of Kentucky COVID-19 Website and Hotline

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services has prepared resources on when to seek care, how to prevent becoming ill, who is most at risk, and up-to-date status of the COVID-19 situation in the state. A hotline for questions regarding the virus in the state is available at 800-722-5725. 

Kentucky Department of Public Health

The Kentucky Department for Public Health continues to closely monitor the international situation concerning the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This respiratory disease was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China on December 31, 2019. Since that time, it has spread throughout China and to many other countries. Public health officials in Kentucky are monitoring individuals who meet certain exposure criteria to limit the introduction of COVID-19 in Kentucky. They are also are preparing for the possibility that the virus begins to spread in the commonwealth.

Kentucky Health Departments 

Colleges are encouraged to visit the websites of their local health departments and coordinate with them for guidance related to cases in their area.
