Student Veterans Group New to MCC

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (11.5.2010) A new student organization for veterans and their families has been formed at Madisonville Community College.

MCC Veterans for Educational and Transitional Support (V.E.T.S.) is a chapter of the nationally recognized Student Veterans of America. Membership is open to all students and alumni who are serving or have served in the U.S. military, including the spouses and children of veterans of any era.

V.E.T.S. will be a tremendous resource for our students locally, said Jay Parrent, dean of student affairs. The support, mentoring, and engagement the group will provide veteran students should have a very positive impact on their academic careers and for our college.

V.E.T.S. is based on the values of all five branches of the military and provides a network of support to veterans and their families. The group seeks to educate the college community about the experiences of military veterans and works with administration to meet the needs of student veterans and prospective student veterans.

V.E.T.S. fosters an understanding of student veterans issues and assists veterans in a successful transition into college.

When I got out of the service in 2008, I was lucky to meet the right people and got on the right track to success (in college), said Earle Eversole, chapter president. The resources are definitely there, and I hope by forming this veterans group here at MCC we can help others transitioning from service.
