MCC Students Honored by Selection to 2011 All-Academic Team

Madisonville,, Ky. (May 26, 2011) Brandi Bloodworth and Justin Lewis of Madisonville Community College were honored as members of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System's 2011 All-Academic Team during the 10th annual KCTCS Student Academic Achievement luncheon held recently at the Lexington Convention Center.

Students from each of the 16 KCTCS colleges were chosen for the All-Academic Team based on a rigorous selection process that focuses on academic performance and campus involvement. Each member of the All-Academic Team received a $500 gift from their college, as well as scholarship opportunities to continue their education from 15 Kentucky public and private universities. Together, the scholarships are valued at more than $500,000. Students were honored during ceremonies held Monday, May 16.

The 2011 KCTCS All-Academic Team Scholars are part of a national program sponsored by national honor society Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Justin completed his associate of applied science degree in occupational therapy assistant in December 2010. Justin served as the vice-president of the OTA student organization and volunteered with the Crittenden County Committed to Children mentoring program. He was awarded the 2010 Mary Bates Volunteer scholarship and received support for four semesters through the Crittenden County Endowment for Excellence while attending MCC. His OTA classmates voted him as the 2011 Gardner Award winner, recognizing his leadership throughout his academic program. Justin chose to attend MCC after losing his job at RayLoc in Morganfield; since graduation, Justin has obtained a wonderful OTA-related job in Paducah. He lives in Marion with his wife, Tammy, and son, Seth.

Brandi is a May 2011 an associate in science graduate. While at MCC, Brandi served as president of the Student Government Association, as an officer in Phi Theta Kappa, and as the student representative on the MCC Board of Directors. Brandi worked on campus as a student tutor in the Learning Center in a number of subject areas; while completing her degree she was awarded the Trio Scholarship and the Academic Competiveness Grant. Brandi s career goal is to be a physical therapist and eventually open her own physical therapy clinic.
