MCC Selected for CAEL Project
In the spring semester, MCC was selected to be one of six sites chosen across the U.S. to participate in a national project lead by the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) funded by the MetLife Foundation.
The purpose of the CAEL project is to create validated training materials for academic and career advisors to work with adult, non-traditional students returning to college. A series of focus groups with area employers was held on campus to gather information about career pathways and the regional occupational outlook in target industries. The industries selected as ones with potential growth in our service area included food processing, health care, light manufacturing, and energy.
The finalized career pathway for each specific industry will help MCC effectively provide targeted career coaching and advising. In addition, it will assist area employers with placement of new hires, internal career coaching, leadership development and development of co-ops and internships.
