MCC Muhlenberg County Campus Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Muhlenberg County citizens are invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Madisonville Community College - Muhlenberg County Campus. A campus open house will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011, from 12:30-3:00 p.m.

Dr. Judith Rhoads, MCC President and Muhlenberg County native, will be present along with a number of Muhlenberg County leaders who were instrumental in the opening of the Muhlenberg County Campus. According to President Rhoads, There were so many community friends committed to the idea that educational and economic progress in Muhlenberg County would require a strong higher education presence in the county. Through the efforts of the campaign led by co-chairs John Stovall and Dennis Kirtley that united all sections of the county to raise over $3 million for the new campus, the citizens of Muhlenberg County showed the state that they were committed to providing recent high school graduates and adult students with an accessible, quality educational experience.

The Muhlenberg Miracle, as it was called at the time the campus opened for business in August 2001, has rapidly unfolded. MCC Chief Academic Affairs Officer, Dr. Deborah Cox, notes that Student growth on the Muhlenberg County Campus has been phenomenal. From a start of approximately 300 students to more than 700 students now, students are engaged full-time or part-time in approximately 66 college course sections preparing them for transfer to four-year institutions or for one of the many MCC career programs. She adds, The Muhlenberg Campus has enriched the lives of thousands of local residents and their families by helping them prepare for the challenges they face in the 21st century.

The college invites everyone to share in the August 25th celebration. Festivities will include light refreshments and door prizes.
