MCC ANNOUNCES NEW ONLINE MINING COURSE

Madisonville Community College (MCC) is pleased to announce the addition of an online mining course to the fall 2013 class schedule. Resulting from efforts to make mining courses more accessible, MNG 102 - Introduction to Mining Engineering will be offered as on online course starting August 19 and will provide an orientation to the mining engineering and mining technology professions. The course includes introduction to key mining engineering activities and functions, mining methods and equipment, and health and safety subsystems. Randy Wolfe, lead instructor in MCC s Mining Technology Program, notes that this course is being offered for the first time in the state and has been developed as a collaborative effort between the University of Kentucky College of Engineering/Department of Mining Engineering, the Kentucky Junior Coal Academy, and MCC. It will provide students with an overview of mining engineering for students interested in the career field or for students wishing to pursue a credential in the mining technology program at MCC.

MNG 102 will also be offered as a dual credit course for high school students at no cost. Dual credit enrollment requires students to have a minimum ACT score of 20 in reading. High school students interested in online mining courses should contact their guidance counselor for additional information.

Students wishing to enroll in MNG 102 for regular college credit should contact MCC s Enrollment Center at (270) 824-8621 or the Muhlenberg County Campus at (270) 757-9881. Last day to register for fall semester classes is Friday, August 16.
