Martin Scholars Program Expanded for 2013-2014

Madisonville Community College is pleased to announce the expansion of the Martin Scholars Program for 2013-2014 academic year. The program is specifically designed to encourage adult students in Muhlenberg County with at least 30 college credit hours to complete their associate s degree at Madisonville Community College. The intent is to increase the educational attainment level in Muhlenberg County, which will not only benefit graduates, but will also raise the profile of Muhlenberg County as a Work Ready Community and act as a catalyst for economic development efforts. The Martin Scholars Program was implemented in January 2012 and is funded by the Felix E. Martin, Jr. Foundation. During the first 3 semesters (January 2012 - June 2013), there have been 22 students enrolled and 2 graduates. Each participant received a $250 incentive award per semester and the graduates received an additional $250 bonus award.

For the 2013-2014 academic year, the Martin Scholars Program has been expanded to include adult students age 22 or older with at least 30 college credit hours. Eligible students will be paid a $250 stipend each semester that can be used to offset costs of books, supplies, tools, equipment, transportation, childcare, or any other college-related expense. Stipend will be paid after verification that the student has successfully completed the first half of the semester courses. All Martin Scholars program participants will be eligible for the stipend as long as they continue to be successfully enrolled at MCC until graduation or for 5 years (whichever occurs first). The associate degree completion bonus award has been increased from $250 to $400. Students (age 22 or older) with less than 30 college credit will be encouraged to enroll at MCC and will be allowed to enroll in the Martin Scholars program once they have successfully completed 30 credit hours of coursework.
