Health Sciences Campus is Smoke-Free/Tobacco-Free

MCC ANNOUNCES SMOKE-FREE/TOBACCO-FREE CAMPUS POLICY

Madisonville Community College (MCC) announces that the Health Sciences Campus located at 750 North Laffoon Street in Madisonville is a smoke-free/tobacco-free campus. Following the trend of Baptist Health and local restaurants and businesses, MCC is committed to providing its students, employees, and visitors with a safe and healthy environment. Other factors in the policy implementation included the presence of underage student on campus, litter from tobacco products, exposure to second-hand smoke at building entrances/exits, and the desire to ensure clean air for all who come to the college. MCC President Dr. Judy Rhoads shared, I am very pleased that the Health Sciences Campus employees and students have opted for a healthy work and learning environment and I fully support their efforts.

Partnering with the Hopkins County Health Department, Cooper Clayton smoking cessation classes will be offered at no cost and tobacco replacement products will be available at reduced costs.

The administrative policy specifically outlines:

Tobacco use is prohibited on all college-owned property and within leased college office and classroom space. The use of all tobacco products is prohibited on college-owned facilities and facilities leased and controlled by the college.

Tobacco use is prohibited in all indoor and outdoor facilities, including entrance steps and ramps, restrooms, pedestrian walkways, entryways, terraces.

Tobacco use is prohibited in college-owned or leased vehicles.

Tobacco use is prohibited at meetings or conferences sponsored by Madisonville Community College.

Tobacco products will not be sold in college facilities.

The success of the college s smoke-free/tobacco-free policy relies on the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of tobacco users and non-tobacco users. Enforcement will be the responsibility of the college community as well as college visitors to observe the policy and inform others. Employees and students who fail to comply with the policy will be subject to progressive disciplinary actions including oral/written warnings and/or reprimands, fines, holds on student accounts, and disciplinary suspension.

MCC s Health Sciences Campus houses healthcare related programs such as Clinical Laboratory Technician, Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography, Respiratory Care, Surgical First Assistant, and Surgical Technology.
