Community Wide Endowment Programs Make Initial Awards for 2012-2013

Madisonville Community College s (MCC) Scholarship Office has announced that initial scholarship awards funded through new endowment programs have been made to recent graduates of Caldwell County High School and Webster County High School. Sixteen total awards were made each with a value of $1,200 12 in Webster County and 4 in Caldwell County. When combined with average KEES awards that are earned over a student s high school career, students will have about $2,300 to support their initial year at MCC, not including other restricted financial aid sources. Scholarships are renewable for academic year 2014 pending eligibility verification.

Caldwell County scholarship recipients are:
Kendra Cruzen
Cory Simmons

The local endowments were established from proceeds of a $1.2 million estate gift provided to MCC by the late Brown Badgett, Sr., a noted Hopkins County coal entrepreneur, philanthropist, and long-time MCC supporter. Various local contributors were also included and scholarship allocations were completed by including interest income from the college s Partners in Progress (PIP) Scholarship Endowment, a general scholarship fund established in 1995. That endowment has a market value of $875,000, with MCC reserving 11% of PIP income for students from Webster County and 7% for Caldwell County graduates.
