MCC Hosts Hopkins County Spelling Bee
The top spellers from each elementary and middle school in the Hopkins County School District congregated last week at Madisonville Community College to compete in the annual Hopkins County Spelling Bee. Held in MCC’s Brown Badgett Sr. Energy and Advanced Technology building, the annual bee began with a practice round and concluded with this year’s winner Waylon Massey from Hanson Elementary spelling the championship word, “paradox”. Jesse Stuart Elementary student Emma Duncan took second.

During the event, MCC Associate Professor Nancy McClearn served as facilitator/coordinator of the event, MCC Professor/IECE Program Coordinator April Grace served as the official pronouncer and Betsy Allen, MCC Associate Professor, Andrea Deal, MCC Professor, and Dr. Karen Mackey, Assistant Professor/Education Coordinator Murray State University served as judges. MCC’s KEA-SP chapter provided the awards.
