How to Apply
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program designed to prepare and support students for the challenges of higher education. SSS provides students with academic advising, assistance in course selection, tutoring, study, math instruction, Peer/Faculty mentoring, financial aid planning, major/career advising, early registration, and workshops to assist in their education pursuits.
In order to qualify for services, a student must be an American citizen or permanent resident of the United States, be registered full time at Madisonville Community College, demonstrate academic need for services as defined by the institution, and meet one or more of the following U.S. Department of Education criteria:
- Low income - as established by the U.S. Commission of Higher Education.
- Disabled - This criterion includes physical disabilities and learning disabilities.
- First-generation college student - neither of the student's parents has graduated from a four-year institution of higher education.
How to apply?
To be a participant in the Student Support Services program you need to go through our application process. The annual application process begins August 1 and continues until the program is filled.
To apply to the program you need to fill out an application and interview with the Director. Interview appointments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. To make an appointment please call the SSS office at (270) 824-8626 beginning August 1. Please bring the application (available online and in our office) and all other required documentation to your interview.
After you have been accepted into the program you only need to reactivate your file the beginning of every fall semester in order to use the services for the new academic school year. The reactivation form is available in the SSS office beginning August.
Students applying to the program must schedule an interview with the Program Director in order to determine eligibility for the Student Support Services program. Please bring the following information to your interview with the Director. If you do not bring everything required for your appointment you will have to reschedule for the next available time.
- Completed application form
- Copy of your most recent tax return (If you are claimed by your parents, you will need to provide a copy of their most recent tax return. If no one claims you as a dependent, please bring your own tax return form.)
- Copy of your financial aid award contract (if you are currently receiving financial aid)
- Disability Documentation (if applicable)
Participant Requirements and Assessment
If you are accepted into the program, you will meet with the program staff for an academic assessment. This will include a study behavior inventory. The results of these assessments may include placement in Student Support Services selections of math and study skills courses. These assessments will enable the staff to recommend courses and additional resources to help you in your success at Madisonville Community College.
Students enrolled in the Student Support Services program at Madisonville Community College must follow through with the requirement as agreed to upon acceptance, including three visits to the office per semester.
