MAD SKILLS I: FLASH FICTION WORKSHOP

MAD SKILLS I COMING NOVEMBER 1-2

Madisonville Community College (MCC) invites all interested community members to attend the upcoming “Mad Skills I:  Flash Fiction Workshop” hosted by MCC’s Humanities Division and English Department.  The events will kick-off on Friday, November 1, at 5 pm at the Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce office (15 East Center Street in Madisonville).  Constance Alexander, a Kentucky Humanities Council Speaker, will share a presentation about writing and include some readings of her work.  This event is free and open to the community.

On Saturday, November 2, from 9 am to 12:30 pm in designated third floor classrooms of the John H. Gray Building on MCC’s North Campus, workshops will be conducted on the writing of flash fiction (typically short narrative pieces that can be read “in a flash”).  Kentucky authors, Normandi Ellis and Steven R. Cope, will lead the workshops.  Ms. Ellis is author of Fresh Fleshed Sisters, a wonderfully voiced series of short vignettes that raise up our often quirky behaviors.  Steven Cope often writes short short stories, as evidenced in his book, The White Doors:  Stories and Anti-stories.   Participants will have the opportunity to attend two sessions, experience the guidance and wisdom of these two experts, and craft flash fiction pieces of their own.  By end of the workshop, participants will have produced two or more flash fiction pieces that can later be refined, shared, and possibly published.

To register for the Mad Skills I:  Flash Fiction Workshop, contact Greg Hagan at 270.824.8606 or email gregory.hagan@kctcs.edu.  Registration fee for the workshops is $25.
