PTA Licensure and Accreditation

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Madisonville Community College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314; telephone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org ; website: http://www.capteonline.org

Upon satisfactory completion of the degree and the clinical affiliation requirements, the PTA graduate may apply for licensure and permission to sit for the National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination. The exam is administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy at specific testing sites. Students who pass the National Licensure Exam may apply for licensure in other states without having to take the exam again. Information about licensure or registration in the state in which one wishes to practice can be obtained from the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.

The Boards of Physical Therapy in the states of Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana may refuse to license or certify an applicant if they have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor and may require the applicant to complete a criminal background check for the specific state of licensure. If prospective students have questions regarding this, they are advised to contact the PT State Board of Licensure directly prior to beginning this course of study.
