Madisonville Community College provides pathways for high school students to take courses in which they earn high school and/or college credit. Over 1,000 high school students from Madisonville North Hopkins High School, Hopkins County Central High School, Dawson Springs Independent High School, Muhlenberg County High School, Webster County High School, Webster County Area Technology Center, Caldwell County High School, Caldwell Area Technology Center, and Crittenden County High School participate in MCC's Pathways to College.
Most dual credit courses are offered with student tuition waivers. Exceptions are classes in the Jump Start Early College Program and classes at a high school or ATC that are taught by college faculty members. Jump Start students receive a tuition waiver for the first class. Students taking additional classes are charged half tuition. Students taking classes from college faculty members at a high school or ATC also pay half tuition. All dual credit students are assessed a statewide dual credit charge. For the 2012-13 academic year, the charge is $50 per student per semester.
There are limits imposed by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and MCC on the number of credits and courses students may take annually with tuition waivers. These apply to all forms of dual credit. Generally, the limits are the greater of 4 courses or 12 credit hours annually.
