Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Training

The truck driving industry is currently experiencing a shortage of drivers. In response to this need, we offer the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program in collaboration with CDL Training and Consulting Services in Peoria, Ill. The CDL program is designed for individuals with little or no commercial driving experience in preparation for an entry-level position in the trucking industry. You will receive a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical; CDL learner’s permit and endorsement preparation; DOT rules and regulations; log books; and training in map reading, trip planning, and vehicle operation. The program also includes the Class A road test.

Following completion of training, you can earn an average of $36,000 to $46,000 your first year on the job.

Program Requirements

You must be able to read and write the English language, be over 21 years of age, meet the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements, and have a valid driver’s license at the time of registration. Those 18 to 21 years of age may train through this program, but they will have limited job placement training.

The following circumstances may disqualify you from the program:

  • Driving record inconsistent with industry standards for entry-level driving positions.
  • Any alcohol-related violations on motor vehicle record within the past three years.
  • Recent felony convictions or criminal background.
  • History of drug or alcohol abuse.
  • History of a mental disorder.
  • Permanent disability or physical limitations.

You are required to obtain a copy of your state’s Motor Vehicle Report during the first week of the program.

Schedule

You can complete the full-time program in three weeks by attending Monday through Friday each week and one Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can complete the part-time evening program in eight weeks by attending Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. You will also be required to complete 30 hours of home study for both the full-time and part-time schedules.

Registration and Fees

You may register for CDL training anytime; however, class sizes are limited. Enrollments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Full-time programs start every two weeks and part-time programs start every eight to 10 weeks, depending on enrollment. Training is scheduled around holidays and interruptions caused by weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Fees

  • MasterCard, Visa, and Discover
  • Veterans Administration (VA) Benefits - Contact your local VA representative to check your eligibility.
  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA) - Contact your local job service office to check your WIA eligibility.

To request program withdrawal with a refund (less any expenses incurred), you must submit your request in writing by the end of the second day the class meets. After the second day, the MCC does not refund any tuition if we are willing and capable of training you. In the event you do not pass the DOT physical, any money paid toward tuition will be refunded, less the cost of the DOT physical.

Credentials

Upon completion of the program, you will receive a certificate as proof of successful course completion. You will also earn 6 credit hours at MCC.
