Stanley Lewis Cultural Diversity Writing Contest Winners Announced

Madisonville Community College (MCC) congratulates the winners of the 2014 Stanley Lewis Cultural Diversity Writing Contest.  Eddie Fleming of Manitou won 1st place with his essay, “A World of Diversity,” and received a $500 prize.   Lynda Vandiver of Madisonville took 2nd place with her entry titled “Pauline” and was awarded $150.   MCC student Drew Brown of Madisonville captured 3rd place with “My mAld” and received $50.  Houston Knox of James Madison Middle School was the winner of the elementary/middle school award of $50 for his submission “Equality in Diversity.”

The annual writing contest is sponsored by MCC and its Multicultural Diversity Committee in honor of the late Stanley Lewis who served MCC students for over 28 years and was the college’s first African American faculty member.  He was dedicated to meeting the needs of every student and providing genuine kindness, concern, and the best possible service to all.  Mr. Lewis was an active member, Deacon, and Trustee of Eastview Baptist Church in Madisonville.
